If your iPhone videos look washed out, pale, or oversaturated when you play them on a Windows PC, share them on social media, or view them on a non-HDR monitor, the problem is HDR. iPhones from the 12 series onward record in Dolby Vision HDR by default, and most screens cannot display it properly.

MiOffice converts HDR to SDR using Hable tone mapping directly in your browser. No upload, no signup. The tone-mapped video produces natural colors on any display.

How to Convert HDR to SDR

  1. 1

Open the HDR to SDR Converter

Go to the HDR to SDR converter.

  2. 2

    Upload Your HDR Video

Drag and drop your HDR video (MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM). Common sources: iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, GoPro.

  3. 3

    Download SDR Video

Click convert. Your tone-mapped SDR video looks correct on all screens.

When to Convert

  • --Sharing with others: Recipients likely have SDR screens. Convert before sending.
  • --Social media upload: Most platforms process HDR poorly. SDR produces more consistent results.
  • --Video editing: Many editors handle HDR inconsistently. Convert to SDR for predictable color grading.
  • --Presentations: Projectors and conference room displays are almost always SDR.

Privacy

Your HDR video is processed locally in your browser using FFmpeg WebAssembly with Hable tone mapping. No video is uploaded to any server.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do my iPhone videos look washed out?
iPhones record in HDR (Dolby Vision or HLG) by default. These videos look great on HDR-capable displays but appear washed out, oversaturated, or flat on SDR screens, which are still the majority of monitors and TVs.
What is tone mapping?
Tone mapping is the process of converting the wider color and brightness range of HDR video to the narrower range of SDR displays. MiOffice uses Hable tone mapping for natural-looking results.
Will I lose quality?
The tone mapping preserves as much visual quality as possible. Colors are remapped to look natural on standard displays. Some dynamic range is necessarily lost since SDR has a narrower brightness range.
Which iPhones record in HDR?
iPhone 12 and later record in Dolby Vision HDR by default. You can disable this in Settings > Camera > Record Video > HDR Video, but existing recordings need conversion.
